Alfonso Ferrabosco the elder

Alfonso Ferrabosco (1543–1588) was an Italian composer who played a key role in bringing the madrigal to England. Born into a musical family in Bologna, he served Queen Elizabeth I starting in 1562. His career was marked by frequent travel between England and Italy, which led to legal troubles and suspicion from the Inquisition. He left England permanently in 1578 and died in Bologna.
