He was the conductor of the court orchestra at the Mecklenburg court in Neustrelitz. In 1869, at the age of 60, he travelled to Boston for the Peace Jubilee and played the violin in the orchestra. He was a prominent musician in Germany. He died on 19 October 1871 in Neustrelitz, Germany
