Hans Neusidler (also Neusiedler, Newsidler) (c. 1508 – February 2, 1563) was a German Renaissance composer and lute player.
Neusidler was born in Pressburg (now Bratislava, Slovakia) and first appears in historical records in 1530, when he settled in Nuremberg. In February, he received a residence permit from the city council and married there in September. In April 1531, he became a citizen and shortly thereafter purchased a house on Zotenberg. In the 1530s, he taught lute there, published eight books of lute music between 1536 and 1549, and also became a self-employed lute maker by 1550. He had thirteen children with his first wife, which led to enormous financial difficulties; he eventually sold his house to pay off his debts. His wife died in January 1556, and five months later he remarried; his second wife bore him four more children before she died in August 1562. Neusidler died in Nuremberg.
Hans’ sons Melchior Neusidler (1531–1590) and Konrad Neusidler (1541–after 1604) were also well-known lutenists and composers.
