Carl Wilhelm August Blum (1786 – July 2, 1844) was a prolific German singer, stage actor, director, librettist, and composer. A student of Friedrich Adam Hiller and later the renowned Antonio Salieri, Blum eventually attained the distinguished position of Court Composer at the Royal Court Opera in Berlin. His legacy includes instrumental music and more than 70 works for the stage.

Blum was a pivotal figure in the development of guitar music during the Romantic era. His compositions, ranging from pedagogical studies to complex solo pieces, reveal an extraordinary level of technical proficiency. He was instrumental in bringing the guitar into the chamber music salons of Berlin through his original works and sophisticated operatic arrangements.
